06/05/2009 Inquiry for Berwick Wind Farms starts today
The hearing for three wind farms in the Berwick area (Moorsyde, Barmoor and Toft Hill) starts today and is expected to finish on 4 June 2009. The inquiry sessions are open to the public – updated timetable information can be viewed at the Berwick Windfarm Public Inquiry website

30/06/2008 Appeal lodged against decision to refuse planning permission

Your Energy has lodged an appeal against Berwick Borough Council's very disappointing decision to refuse planning permission for the project in March. Although the council's professional planning officers recommended approving the scheme - which will generate safe, clean, renewable electricity equivalent to the annual needs of up to 7,250 homes - councillors voted against. We expect a decision from the Planning Inspectorate in 2009.

20/03/2008 Community Fund announced

We are pleased to confirm that communities close to the proposed site will be in line for up to £640,000 in funding over the life of the project should approval be granted this week. Decisions on the projects to benefit will be taken taken locally, with a panel comprising community representatives selecting the most suitable initiatives to receive funds. A large lump sum will be made available at the outset to enable projects to get off the ground. Previously-established funds elsewhere in the country have paid for solar panels to be installed on a community building and extra educational resources for local children.

Email us with your ideas for potential projects that could benefit from the fund.

18/03/2008  Decision Date - Thursday 27 March 2008

The Berwick Borough Council have set 10am Thursday 27 March to decide three wind farm applications in the area - Moorsyde, Barmoor and Toft Hill.  We are pleased to announce that once again the Moorsyde Wind Farm has been Recommended for Approval in the Planning Report to Councillors.

Venue:  The Maltings, Berwick upon Tweed.  Meeting commences at 10am

16/10/2007  Reduction of Proposal - From 10 to 7 Turbines

Following a study commissioned by the Berwick upon Tweed Borough Council into the impact of the three wind farm proposals currently being considered in the northern Berwick area, the proposal has been reduced by 3 turbines.  The remaining 7 turbines are in the same place.

15/05/2007  Decision Pushed Back Again

Statement from Richard Mardon, Managing Director of Your Energy Ltd:

"We are obviously disappointed with the latest delay - we have been in the planning system for 2.5 years now, during which time we could have generated safe, clean renewable energy for thousands of homes and displaced significant quantities of CO2. More consultants have reviewed our project than ever before and we are confident that they will continue to confirm that this is the right project in the right place. We cannot wait in our collective battle against climate change - we hope a decision will be made soon"

08/05/2007  Decision being heard at May Planning Committee Meeting

The Berwick Borough Council will be deciding the Moorsyde Wind Farm application at their meeting on 29 May 2007.

29/01/2007  Another delay on decision for Moorsyde Wind Farm

Statement from Richard Mardon, Managing Director of Your Energy Ltd:

"We are deeply disappointed and baffled by this further delay and are still trying to investigate the reasons behind it. Three consultants have already been hired by the Council to review our project, at a cost to the council tax payer. Cumulative impact – which seems to be the latest spurious concern raised – has never applied to our project because ours was the first proposal in the area. During its excessively long time in the planning system subsequent projects have been submitted – these projects would need to evaluate this cumulative issue and we assume that they have done so. This latest delay really makes no sense at all.

Our project has been in the planning system for over two years, but projects such as these should be determined within four months. We have already granted three time extensions and have been very patient – we hope we can work with the council to quickly resolve this issue.

Our project, if consented, would provide clean, renewable energy for around 10,000 households – pretty much the whole of Berwick Borough. It is this significant benefit that should be focus of attention. It is vital in our fight against climate change that projects such as these are given the go ahead and not stuck in the system."

13/12/06  Moorsyde Wind Farm - decision delayed

The Berwick upon Tweed Borough Council have deferred decision of the application in response to an 11th hour legal letter sent to the Council by Dickinson Dees.  We are confident that this technical issue can be cleared by the next planning committee meeting.

11/08/06  Moorsyde Wind Farm reduced to 10 Turbines

The size of the proposed wind farm at Moorsyde has been reduced from 14 turbines to 10.
